B.B. King made “The Thrill is Gone” into a major hit in 1970. He did not write that song. It was written by West Coast blues musician Roy Hawkins and Rick Darnell in 1951. Hawkins’ recording of the song reached number six on the Billboard R&B chart in that same year, but it is B.B. King’s rendition that was placed at number 183 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. There’s a bit of trivia for you!

For me, the thrill is not gone, nor is it ever likely to be. I’ve been published again in Like The Wind Magazine, a beautifully illustrated running magazine for runners and about runners. For me, the magazine has a wider appeal than just for runners though. Anyone who appreciates living life fully by running, biking, swimming, hiking, etc. will love this publication. If there is one thing all practitioners of these disciplines have in common,  it is the love of getting outside, pushing our limits, solving our problems, working out strategies, and embracing challenges. That, my dear readers, is a universal language we can all appreciate.

My latest article for this magazine is all about an encounter I had with a wonderful older gentleman that never would have happened to me had I not been an avid outdoor runner. The opportunity for me to meet this man was provided to me by God. There is no other way to explain it. I was drawn to this man I was TOLD to stop, and I finally listened. So glad I did.

The illustration was done by Nikki LaRochelle – http://www.nikkilarochelle.com/, an extremely talented artist that lives in Breckenridge, Colorado. I love the way she captured Seamus O’Malley as he runs after the geese. He’d never eat them or hurt them in any way…he just wants to play! The geese, understandably want no part of that.

You cannot read this magazine online. Not even with a subscription. This is a proper magazine that you must buy and hold in your hands. You know, like we did in the olden days! I was born in England, so the fact that I’m being published a UK magazine just seems right. For me, that adds a specialness to the event.

Thanks go out again to my friends and family who support me in my writing endeavors. I am endlessly appreciative! When I think I’ve written something awful, you are there to tell me I haven’t. So far you’ve been right more often than I’ve been. I love you all! Cheerio, then…until the next time!
